Arriving in time for the launch of Black History Month, the premiere of “Cooking with OhSoBella” February 1st. on Paradox Universe. Six episodes have already been recorded, according to the producer-director Joseph Mbah.

The show, which caters to an audience of mostly young African-American women, gives Brown “the chance to be herself and have fun creating great food in a laid-back, ‘folksy’ way. “, said Mbah.

The fun takes place in a conventional TV studio kitchen, but that’s the only conventional thing about “Cooking with OhSoBella,” he promised.

“There’s no way to hide imperfections – sometimes Christine’s ingredients don’t all end up in the mixing bowl, sometimes she lets out profanity when things aren’t going well, sometimes she even spits while drinking alcohol. bottled water when she can’t believe what she just saw or heard from her guests,” Mbah explained. “Christine makes mistakes and laughs about them and we keep it all in. The gaffes are built into the show, which is an embrace of the imperfections of everyday cooking.”

Mbah, who is also the CEO of Paradox Universe, said Brown has long wanted to offer this type of program.

“But everyone she collaborated with to bring her ideas to fruition kept trying to push her into formulaic presentations that were overdone and that the audience is tired of seeing,” Mbah explained. “All Christine wanted was a show where she could really be herself and have a great time creating magic in the kitchen. Only Paradox Universe could capture her vision and bring it to life.”

Mbah said he thought “Cooking with OhSoBella” (OhSoBella is Brown’s Instagram handle) would be a ratings hit because “we’ve all had it so far trying to be ‘perfect’ in the kitchen and in other aspects of our lives. the show is about being normal and appreciating that normal is cool.”

Each episode is not just about food, Mbah said. “Christine will also be sharing stories from her life’s journey,” he said. “Food is her way of exploring different cultures and doing it in a unique, wholesome and moving way.”

In the first episode, Brown demonstrates how to make drunken fried chicken, a childhood favorite in the Deep South.
