A North Side Minneapolis chef has been featured on The Cooking Channel for his soulful wit and food.
Chef Wendy Puckett has been serving tasty dishes at Wendy’s House of Soul since 2019.
Even before Puckett could reach the stove, she knew she would be spending most of her time in the kitchen.
“I started with my very young grandmother. As far back as I can remember, I was on his hip cooking,” she said.
Music was one of the main ingredients.
“There was always music, whether it was gospel music or just R&B, soul music, country rock — there was no limit,” Puckett said.
Fast forward and Puckett is the owner of her restaurant, Wendy’s House of Soul, at the corner of Glenwood and Morgan avenues in Minneapolis. He is well known for his signature “Soulrolls”.
“I’ve only heard good things about Soulroll and Mogul Burger, so I had one of each today,” said Yoni D, a customer.
Now Puckett is getting national attention. She was featured on The Cooking Channel’s “Food Paradise” on Wednesday.
“It’s amazing. Sometimes I feel like I’m looking into someone else’s life. I’m truly blessed,” Puckett said. is really tough, but it’s amazing to see all the hard work paying off.”
The magic happens in the kitchen, but it doesn’t stop there.
Chef Wendy uses her skills to give back. She prepares free meals for the children on the north side.
In his restaurant, there is a pay it forward system. If a customer doesn’t have the money, they are covered.
“I never want anyone to walk in the doors and not eat something. We will find out,” she said.
Puckett puts his heart and soul into every customer and every meal.
“For me, the soul is anything that makes you dance, move you, move you, make you smile, or make you feel good,” she said.
