The Orlando Pride backline is in good hands with Ali Riley and Toni Pressley. Both defenders had impressive careers that took them around the world, eventually landing in Orlando where their friendship began.

Ali and Toni have thwarted many offensive efforts as part of Orlando’s backline, but the similarities between the two go beyond their football prowess. Upon Ali’s arrival in Orlando, they immediately recognized a shared passion for cooking and the creative outlet it provides. This passion spawned Girls Gone Veg, their highly entertaining vegan cooking show.

Toni has been a vegan since 2016, when she dove headfirst into vegan food and recipes. Although admitting a learning curve, she immediately noticed a positive impact.

“I slept better, I bent over a lot, I had less pain,” she says. “My muscles were better recovered and ready to face the next day. I also feel overall lighter in general, even mentally.

Ali was a bit late for the game. She’s experimented with everything from sugar-free to paleo, thinking “how can I run faster, how can I be stronger, leaner, and more powerful.” After earning a health coaching certification, she solidified her understanding of the “wellness properties” of food. And after meeting Toni, vegan food became a constant in her diet. She is now a self-proclaimed flexitarian, often eating vegan while occasionally enjoying meat, fish or eggs, etc.

Casting Girls Gone Veg “made sense”

With so many great recipes between them, Ali and Toni knew from the start that creating a cookbook together was inevitable. After meeting former NFL star Brandon Marshall (his I AM AN ATHLETE channel would become the platform for their cooking show), their aspirations evolved. It became clear that a cooking show would be a smart business move and an exciting new venture.

After meeting Brandon and understanding his brand, there was no doubt that I AM AN ATHLETE would be the perfect place to launch Girls Gone Veg. The support and capital provided with the platform, as well as the male allies they gained in the process, have been invaluable.

Girls Gone Veg extends far beyond a standard cooking show. There are laughs, quality conversations, a few cocktails, some great dance moves, and at the end, a delicious vegan meal you’ll want to try making at home. Ali and Toni manage to make eating vegan seem not only doable, but enjoyable.

I AM AN ATHLETE allows Ali and Toni to own the show, whether that means playing drums and singing or having meaningful conversations about social injustice. Unsurprisingly, they didn’t have to look far for special guests.

“We have a lot of friends and teammates who are so interesting, and we think they have great stories and important insights to share with everyone,” Toni said. Beyond, the I AM AN ATHLETE the podcast and the brand also helped us attract some really cool guests.

Ali and Toni are inspirations on the court, and many aspiring young athletes look up to them for their strength, courage, power and sheer talent. And although football continues to be the dominant force in their lives, these women are fascinating, well-rounded human beings whose talents and intrigue extend far beyond the world of football.

Girls Gone Veg is the perfect opportunity for people to understand the complete person behind these athletes while thoroughly entertaining themselves in the process. So mark your calendars!

On Fridays at 12 p.m. EST, episodes go live. Mix up a vegan cocktail and settle in for an exciting mix of storytelling, cooking and laugh-out-loud fun.
