Gordon Ramsay has been ridiculed by viewers after his new cooking show’s over-the-top opening scene was shared online.
In the clip for her new contest series Future stars of gastronomy – which starts on BBC One at 9pm tonight (March 31) – Ramsay can be seen jumping from a helicopter into the sea and swimming furiously towards a group of disbelieving contestants.
“It’s a starter, isn’t it?” observes one of the competitors.
In the next shot, Ramsay is shown walking across the sand towards them. His hair is inexplicably dry.
Posting the footage to Twitter, TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan wrote: “This is the opening of this new Gordon Ramsay bonkers new food Apprentice show I was telling you about.
In another tweet, he added: “Moments later he thought, ‘To be successful in business you have to take risks. I took a leap of faith for you, now you must take one for me. He then points to a nearby cliff and asks the others to jump off it…
“It’s a cooking show… The first time I saw food, or a pan or anything, was 23 minutes into the show…”
Twitter users raved about the clip, with one person commenting, “Such a great cut between swimming and perfectly styled hair for the beach photo.”
Another added: “Omg this is the most 2000 thing I’ve ever seen.”

Future stars of gastronomy will see a group of entrepreneurs compete for a £150,000 investment in their food or drink business.
“Winning Gordon’s backing will take more than just a brilliant idea – contestants will need to prove they have the raw ingredients needed to succeed: determination, dedication, passion and talent,” the BBC press release read. .
“Gordon will lead contestants through a series of relentless challenges designed to test their character and showcase their business skills because, according to Gordon, an idea is only as good as the person who came up with it.”
