In this episode of “The Black Vegan Cooking Show”, two powerhouses of the plant-based cooking world come together to create a truly mouth-watering dish.
Chef Charlise Rookwood welcomes Chef Chyna Love, owner of BAD Gyal Vegan, a company that concentrates plant-based versions of traditional Jamaican cuisine. The two chefs concoct vegan oxtails that will flavor your kitchen so much that the neighbors will come knocking on the door.
These aren’t just any vegan oxtails – this is Chef Chyna’s signature Voxtail. Vegan cuisine launched the Chef’s career and changed her life. She shares with Rookwood that she was a single mother when her daughters were only one and two years old. Love was living in a shelter in Brooklyn with her daughters, unsure of what direction her life would take next. She went on a 30 day fast to find herself and during that time she created Voxtail. She remembers sending a picture of the food to a friend who said,
“Your life will never be the same again.”
This friend was right. It wasn’t long before locals were lining up in the dead of winter outside Love’s apartment to pick up an order from Voxtail.
Although she doesn’t share the secret recipe with her Voxtail, Chef Chyna shows Rookwood a truly delicious way to make it. And while the ladies cook, they sip refreshing coconut, mint and pineapple cocktails that Chef Rookwood has prepared for them.
