New Orleans Queen of Bounce Big Freedia to Host Outdoor Cooking Show

The rebound queen and New Orleans native Big Freedia will be hosting a series of live outdoor cooking demonstrations from City Park in New Orleans every Thursday throughout July, starting this Thursday. While the (limited) number of tickets for the July 2 event are sold out, the weekly Garden Cookout with Big Freedia will be streamed live on its website and social media channels.

Big Freedia will host the barbecue-themed demonstrations at City Park Botanical Gardens in front of a small, socially distanced audience. A press release teased dishes like You Deja Know stuffed peppers, booty smac ‘n cheese and grilled fresh asparagus, all using edible garden herbs and vegetables.

Big Freedia has long been a tastemaker and influencer in the New Orleans foodie world, landing her own rosé in 2017 and developing plans for a cookbook. The New York Times released a list of his New Orleans restaurant recommendations last year, which included local favorites like Manchu, Neyow’s Creole Cafe and the newer Morrow’s. Since the start of her quarantine, she has been live-streaming two cooking shows, “Whatcha Cooking Wednesdays” and “Sunday Gospel Brunch.” Of the backyard barbecue, she said, “I’m so excited to bring people together in an outdoor environment. Partnering with City Park, which raises awareness about gardening and food, is an honor.
